Fire and Ice

Hi! I finished the book Into the Wild, so I am now reading the next book in the first series, Fire and Ice. In Into the Wild, Rusty gets renamed Firepaw. The Clan names work like this: When you are a kit, your name ends with "kit." For example, Graykit. When you are an apprentice learning to be a warrior, your name ends with "paw". i.e. Firepaw. Your warrior name doesn't have to stick to any guidelines. Some warriors' names are: Goldenflower, Longtail, Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, etc. If you become a leader, the last part of your name gets changed to "star". This warrior was Bluekit, then Bluepaw, then Bluefur, and now she is the leader of Thunderclan, Bluestar.
At the end of Into the Wild, Firepaw and his friend Graypaw become warriors. Firepaw's new name is Fireheart, and Graypaw is now Graystripe. Their other friend, Ravenpaw, is still an apprentice. One day, Fireheart hears Ravenpaw's mentor, Tigerclaw, plotting with another cat to kill Ravenpaw. Fireheart goes back and tells Graystripe. They tell Ravenpaw and now they are making a plan with him to escape. He is not sure where to go, but they have some ideas.

I really like this book so far because there is a lot of exciting moments in it. I have read these books, but it was a long time ago and I don't really remember all that much from it. It was good refreshing my memory. The first series is one of my favorites because you can't really tell what is going to happen. The first time I read Fire and Ice, I thought that Fireheart and Graystripe were going to keep it a secret that Tigerclaw wanted to kill Ravenpaw. I thought that they would keep it a secret for too long and that Tigerclaw would end up getting killed himself. I had this whole idea that Tigerclaw was going to wait until Ravenpaw was alone, and then try to kill him. I thought that maybe Graystripe, Fireheart, and some other warriors would jump out of the bushes and fight against Tigerclaw on Ravenpaw's side.
Well, this ended up not happening. When I was reading the second series, I had other ideas of what was going to happen. I really like how the book hints that certain things are going to happen, and then it ends up not happening, but the complete opposite ends up taking place. I also really like how each chapter is told from a different character's point of view. I like this because it doesn't get boring with the narrator telling us about the same feelings and ideas that the character has over and over and over.
Overall, I think that I like Fire and Ice better than Into the Wild. I like it better because in Into the Wild, the book pretty much only told about Graypaw and Firepaw's training to become a warrior. Fire and Ice is more exciting to me because there are more battles and adventures. Don't get me wrong here, I am not a really grim person who likes to watch animals die. It's just that when there are battles, there is more action and liveliness. I like it when the cats are alert and there is a lot of hoopla, because it is just more exciting that way.
Overall, I think that I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the first book who also likes animals, action, and combats.

  1. I have never read a book were a cat is the main character and so that is pretty neat. Books that use animals are really cool because you begin to wonder if animals really are doing this?
