Fire and Ice

Hi! I finished the book Into the Wild, so I am now reading the next book in the first series, Fire and Ice. In Into the Wild, Rusty gets renamed Firepaw. The Clan names work like this: When you are a kit, your name ends with "kit." For example, Graykit. When you are an apprentice learning to be a warrior, your name ends with "paw". i.e. Firepaw. Your warrior name doesn't have to stick to any guidelines. Some warriors' names are: Goldenflower, Longtail, Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, etc. If you become a leader, the last part of your name gets changed to "star". This warrior was Bluekit, then Bluepaw, then Bluefur, and now she is the leader of Thunderclan, Bluestar.
At the end of Into the Wild, Firepaw and his friend Graypaw become warriors. Firepaw's new name is Fireheart, and Graypaw is now Graystripe. Their other friend, Ravenpaw, is still an apprentice. One day, Fireheart hears Ravenpaw's mentor, Tigerclaw, plotting with another cat to kill Ravenpaw. Fireheart goes back and tells Graystripe. They tell Ravenpaw and now they are making a plan with him to escape. He is not sure where to go, but they have some ideas.

I really like this book so far because there is a lot of exciting moments in it. I have read these books, but it was a long time ago and I don't really remember all that much from it. It was good refreshing my memory. The first series is one of my favorites because you can't really tell what is going to happen. The first time I read Fire and Ice, I thought that Fireheart and Graystripe were going to keep it a secret that Tigerclaw wanted to kill Ravenpaw. I thought that they would keep it a secret for too long and that Tigerclaw would end up getting killed himself. I had this whole idea that Tigerclaw was going to wait until Ravenpaw was alone, and then try to kill him. I thought that maybe Graystripe, Fireheart, and some other warriors would jump out of the bushes and fight against Tigerclaw on Ravenpaw's side.
Well, this ended up not happening. When I was reading the second series, I had other ideas of what was going to happen. I really like how the book hints that certain things are going to happen, and then it ends up not happening, but the complete opposite ends up taking place. I also really like how each chapter is told from a different character's point of view. I like this because it doesn't get boring with the narrator telling us about the same feelings and ideas that the character has over and over and over.
Overall, I think that I like Fire and Ice better than Into the Wild. I like it better because in Into the Wild, the book pretty much only told about Graypaw and Firepaw's training to become a warrior. Fire and Ice is more exciting to me because there are more battles and adventures. Don't get me wrong here, I am not a really grim person who likes to watch animals die. It's just that when there are battles, there is more action and liveliness. I like it when the cats are alert and there is a lot of hoopla, because it is just more exciting that way.
Overall, I think that I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the first book who also likes animals, action, and combats.

Into the Wild

Hi! I am back and I am reading a book called Into the Wild by Erin Hunter. Into the Wild is the 1st book in a series called Warriors. There are 3 series of books in the Warriors series. The first series is called Warriors and it has 6 books. Those books are about house cat named Rusty who goes into the forest to join a clan of wild cats. The second series is Warriors: The New Prophecy, and it also has 6 books. Those books are about Rusty's daughters, and one of his daughter's mate. The third series is Warriors: The Power of Three and it has 5 books. The third series is about Rusty's 3 grandchildren, (hence the name, Power of Three).
Anyway, I have read all 3 series and I think that these books are pretty good. The books take place in England in a forest. There are 4 clans of wild cats who live there; ShadowClan, ThunderClan, RiverClan, and WindClan. The books focus on ThunderClan. In Into the Wild, there is a cat named Rusty. Rusty leaves his housefolk (owners) and goes to join ThunderClan. Normally, the Clans are hostile to kittypets (house cats). But this time, ThunderClan's leader, Bluestar, accepts Rusty into the Clan. I won't give away too much about the books because you have to read the whole book in order to read the next one.
As I said earlier, I have read all of the books, and I think these books are pretty good. I say this because there is a lot of action. Normally, you wouldn't think of a book about cats fighting would be good, but these books actually are very entertaining. I think that the reason I like these books is because they don't just focus in on one character alone. This book is written in 3rd person point-of-view. In the first series, they talk about Rusty, Bluestar (ThunderClan's leader), and Spottedleaf (ThunderClan's medicine cat). My personal favorite series is the 2nd series. I like this because 4 cats (one from each Clan) go on a long journey. Each chapter focuses in on a different cat. I like this because the book doesn't get boring. I don't like the 3rd series as much, because the same plot gets used over again, although my favorite character, Jayfeather, comes from that series.
I would definetly recommend this series to anyone who likes an adventure, action, and cats.

The Hunger Games

Hi! I am back and (as you may realize) I am reading the book "The Hunger Games." It is about a girl names Katniss, her sister Prim, and Katniss's friend Gale. It is kind of confusing at first because Katniss (this book is in first person) mentions the reaping and the Hunger Games. I was confused because I didn't know what the reaping or the Hunger Games were at first, but then Patrick told me that the reaping was where they picked the people who were going to participate in the Hunger Games. Apparently, nobody wants to be in the Hunger Games. I am not really sure why, but since the title is the Hunger Games, I am guessing that it will be something that has to do with going without food or something.
Katniss, Prim, and their mother live in District 12. I guess District 12 is not the greatest place to live, because they are obsessed with getting food and storing it, so maybe District 12 is poor or something like that.
At the reaping, Prim gets chosen, but Katniss takes her place. I predict that next, Katniss will either win the Hunger Games, or something will happen with Gale, because I can see some romance coming between them.
A lot of different people recommended this book to me, and so far, I think that this book is really good. I think it is good because it is not one of those books that you can predict everyhting that is going to happen.
In the beginning, I could tell that either Katniss, Gale, or Prim was going to be picked for the Hunger Games, because the title wouldn't be called The Hunger Games unless one of the main characters was actually in the Games.
On a scale of 1-10 (10 being high) I would give this book a 7 so far, because I can't predict what is going to happen next. I really do not like books that you can tell everything that is going to happen, because then there is no point to reading them. Anyway, this book is pretty good so far, so I will stick with it for at least one more week.

The Call of the Wild

Hi! I am back, and talking about a new book this week. I am reading The Call of the Wild by Jack London. It is about a husky dog named Buck, who gets kidnapped and shipped to Alaska. He gets released and tries to run away, but a man catches him and beats him with a club many times. He passes out after a while, then wakes up in a tent. There are a few other husky dogs with him, and a man. The man lets the dogs all rest, then brings them outside. He attaches them to a harness, and to a sleigh. He teaches them to pull him on the sled. Buck quickly catches on.
Later, a group of wild, skinny, desperate husky dogs show up while the man (Francois), Buck, and his teammates are asleep. They scavenge for their food. Francois wakes up and hears them rustling around. He tries to chase them away, but they bite him and attack him. Outraged by this, Buck and his teammates leave the tent and go help Francois, after all that he did for them. They bite and jump and kick and attack until their enemies finally give up.

So far, I think that this book is pretty good. In the beginning, I didn't like it all that much, because I love animals, so I didn't like reading about him being kidnapped, starved, and I especially didn't like when he was being beaten. Although he survived, I wish that hadn't happened. If I were the author, I would make him not get beaten.
I liked it when Francois rescued him from the abusive people. He made friends with his teammates, so that was also a good/happy thing.
I like it when books are exciting, so even though the fight wasn't a good thing, I kind of enjoyed it. I like it when there are fights and/or tension in a book or movie, so that was an exciting part for me.

Overall, I think this was a pretty good book so far. I think this because it was exciting when there was the fight, and when Francois rescued him. I didn't give it an excellent rating because I didn't like the part when Buck was being kidnapped and beaten. If I had to rate this book on a scale from 1-10 (10 being high), I would probably give it a 7 1/2.

The Sisters Grimm

Hi! I am back, (obviously), and I have started reading a book called The Sisters Grimm. I have to thank Patrick Gardner for this, because he gave me the first 2 books in the series for my birthday. So far, there are two sisters (hence the name, Sisters Grimm), Sabrina and Daphne. Sabrina is 11 and Daphne is 7. About a year ago, their parents mysteriously disappeared. So their family attorney has been chouffering the sisters around, trying to find different foster homes for them to go in. So far, all of them have been bad. Then they find their long-lost granny (who has been believed to be dead by the girls) in a newspaper ad. The family attorney drives them over and drops them off. Their granny is sort of strange so far, and their granny's butler, Mr. Crim, is even creepier. Once they get to the house, the girls unpack, have dinner, and go to bed. In the middle of the night, Daphne gets up and sees some small lights out the window. Sabrina is still asleep, so Daphne gets up and opens the window. Sabrina wakes up and yells at Daphne. They try to close the window, but it is stuck. They turn around and see Mr. Crim standing in the doorway. He looks angry. He comes in, yells at them, closes the window, and nails it shut. He tells them to, "Never let anyone or anything into this house!" Just as he turns around, the girls see a small figure sitting in the woods, playing the flute. Sabrina blinked, and it was gone. She thinks something fishy is going on.

I think that so far, this book has been pretty interesting. I say this because in the beginning, it is suspenseful when the girls are going to meet their granny. Truthfully, I thought that the granny wasn't going to show up at first. Also, I think that something fishy is going on, because they saw the small lights, and Mr. Crim and their granny were extremely strict on the fact that they were not supposed to let anything into their house. I also thought it was kind of suspicious that they saw a small "person", if you will, sitting in a tree. Then the next second, it was gone. I think that they might be fairies or pixies, because the title of the book is The Sisters Grimm; Book 1, The Fairy Detectives. Also, when their granny is laying down the rules in the beginning, she mentions a locked closet that is to stay locked at all times. She says that the girls might hear some strange noises coming from the closet, but they are to ignore the noises and keep the door locked tightly. I think that maybe the granny is a fairy detective/hunter and she finds the fairies and/or pixies and locks them in the closet. Later on in the book, she probably introduces the girls to fairy hunting. So far, this book has been fairly odd and suspicious, but on a scale from 1-10, (10 being wonderful and 1 being repulsive), I have to give this book an 8. I give it a high rating because it was suspenseful and interesting when the girls were finding out about the closet. I don't give it a 9 or 10 because I haven't read all that much of the book, and I think it could be better.
If I were the author, I would make the granny not show up when the girls are scheduled to meet her. Then, it would be even more suspicious because the girls know that their granny is dead, because their parents told them so. And, they would have to go searching for her. Once they found whoever was posing as their granny, they would have to do some research on who this woman is.
I also think that since the granny is supposedly dead, but she is actually there, it is kind of weird. I think that eventually, they will find out that this is just some old random lady who is crazy. I think that they will find out that she escaped from her mental institute. I'm serious! This lady is weird! When they were leaving the house to go shopping, she knocked on the door and said "We're just going out for a while, we'll be back". The girls asked her who she was talking to, and she said that she was talking to the house. I'm not even joking. She said that as if it were the most normal thing in the universe.
Overall, this is a pretty interesting book. I hope it will be exciting soon. I also hope that they will see more strange figures in the woods.

Exit Here

Hi! I am continuing to read Exit Here by Jason Myers. So, now Travis met up with Claire at a bar nad they had some drinks and talked about school and other stuff. The book is in fist-person point of view (Travis's point of view) and he keeps thinking about how pretty Claire is. I think that instead of moping about Laura breaking up with him, he should just go out with Claire. Next, Travis, Cliff, Michael, chris, and Claire go to a party, and (as I predicted), they saw Laura there with another guy. Travis gets angry and he walks away. This would have worked, except for the slight detail that Laura noticed him.
She calls him a few times, and follows him until he realizes that she is not going away. She asks him why he is going away from her, and he lies and tells her that he didn't hear her, and asks if she could hurry up because he doesn't feel well. Obviously he is lying, because he was going to a party and hanging out with his friends, so I'm guessing that he feels well.
I think that next, she is going to introduce him to her new boyfriend and he is going to be really mean and snotty. I also think that instead of Travis being mad at Laura, he is going to pull her aside and ask if she wants to get back together with him. I think he is going to do this because he keeps talking about Laura to Michael and Chris. She will probably say no, becuase she is going out with Bryan. (Bryan is her new boyfriend's name). Overall, I think that this book [so far] deserves a 6 out of 10, (10 being fantastic and 1 being horrible).
I think this because the book is fairly interesting, considering the fact that Travis is torn between Laura and Claire, and he can't decide who to choose. I also didn't give it a really high rating becuase the book is kind of boring. There's no action, except when Travis is running away from Laura, and that isn't even all that interesting.
Like I said in my previous post, I hope this book will heat up soon, or else I will have to abandon it.

Exit Here

Hi! I am reading a book called exit here. by Jason Myers. So far, Travis has gone to dinner with his parents and his little sister, and they talked about where he was going to stay, and he said that he was going to stay at their house instead of a dorm. His parents got him a red Ford Saturn to drive for the summer. So Michael, Chris and Travis meet up with some friends; Travis' old pal, Claire, and his best friend Cliff. Travis just broke up with his girlfriend, Laura, and he is "a little bit off"as the author puts it. If I were the author, I would make Travis not break up with his girlfriend, because I like people to be happy. I predict that next, they will be walking in the street or go to a bar or something and see Laura with another guy, and then maybe there will be some action or something and a fight will take place. (Probably not, but I can be hopeful, right?). The book is pretty boring so far, because nothing is happening. Everyone is just going from place to place saying "hi" or playing a board game or just talking or something. I guess the book will heat up because I am only on page 30 or something and there are about 500 pages in the book, so unless the book is extremely boring and doesn't have any action. So, I am hoping that things will get interesting pretty soon.
